But banking rules and systems differ from country to country - so make sure you understand your bank and the small print on the banker's contracts and documents.

The language of banking

In recent years many banks have been streamlining their activities, going more and more paperless, and making opening and managing accounts remotely (online or by fax) easier. Even so, it helps to deal with a bank that speaks your language; it also helps to know what to expect from the system.
